Towards Creative and Ethically Responsible Uses of AI for adapting Chinese Painting and Classical Shakespeare Illustration
Abstract

Achieving artistically convincing results through generative art creation (AI) is far from being an automated process. Human art direction and the integration of traditional artistic approaches with AI-methods are still needed to arrive at successful results.
This talk will negotiate the two latest strands Prof. Raii is engaging in with his research team: The first project adapted the traditional Chinese poem “The Stork Tower” in Chinese painting style and used AI-generative tools for stylization and clean-up of rough inbetween drawings. The main goal of the other project is to create innovative visual adaptations of Shakespeare plays in animation, supported by AI production methods.
In close collaboration with the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, our research investigates the use of AI from the arts & humanities perspective.
This presentation will allow for deep insights into the concept and production stages of each project, offering suggestions for possible methods for best practice in this newly emerging and radically developing field.
